Getting Started
At DMF Consulting Group, we are committed to creating a safe, neutral, and supportive environment where children can maintain healthy relationships with their non-custodial parent under the guidance of a trained visitation provider. To begin services, both the custodial and non-custodial parent must complete our intake process as outlined below.
Step 1: Phone Screenings
Each parent will participate in a separate phone screening with DMF Consulting Group. Before this call, you will be asked to email key documentation for review. These documents will be discussed during the phone call to determine eligibility and next steps.
Step 2: Intake Interviews
Following the phone screening, DMF Consulting Group will contact both parents to schedule individual intake interviews. These are typically held in a public location such as a coffee shop to ensure a neutral environment.
Each interview will last approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour and will cover:
-
Program expectations
-
Confidentiality
-
Visitation policies
-
Payment process
-
Health and safety measures
-
Emergency medical authorization
-
The 2008 California Uniform Standards of Practice for Providers of Supervised Visitation
Step 3: Intake Appointment

Visitation Plan Development
At DMF Consulting Group, we believe that supervised visitation is most successful when it is rooted in communication, collaboration, and the child’s best interests. Our visitation plans are developed in partnership with all relevant parties — including the monitor, custodial and non-custodial parents, children (when appropriate), foster parents, and other key individuals involved in the child's care.
A well-developed visitation plan supports emotional safety, clear expectations, and smoother interactions. Best practice recommends including the following components:
-
Scheduled Dates, Times, and Locations of visits
-
Clear Arrangements for who is responsible for confirming, scheduling, or initiating each visit
-
List of Participants — including who is authorized to be present
-
Monitoring Details — type of supervision required, assigned monitor
-
Emergency Protocols — how health, safety, or behavioral emergencies will be managed
-
Procedures for Disruptions or Cancellations — including reporting and rescheduling guidelines
-
Relevant Family Information — including important contacts, restrictions, or sensitivities
-
Visit Frequency and Duration — how often visits will occur and for how long
-
Proposed Visit Activities — age-appropriate, child-centered, and safe
-
Transportation Plans — including drop-off/pick-up procedures or neutral exchange locations
-
Visit Conditions — including any court-ordered or behavioral conditions (e.g., no substance use, no discussion of legal matters)
DMF Consulting Group ensures that each plan is trauma-informed, aligned with court directives, and centered around the child’s well-being. Our goal is to foster consistency, safety, and positive family connections—one visit at a time.
